Home visit therapy and caring support in the home

If you're reading this right now

Getting to a clinic is hard. Maybe you're not driving at the moment. Maybe transport is exhausting. Maybe your condition fluctuates and you can't always predict how you'll be feeling. Or maybe being assessed in your own home. the environment where you actually live your life. just makes more sense.

Home visits from rehabilitation therapists are available across the UK, and they are often the most practical and meaningful way to access support after a neurological condition.

Why home visit therapy can be the right choice

Finding a home visit therapist

For many people with neurological conditions, home visits are not just more convenient. they can be more clinically effective. Here's why:

Relevance. an occupational therapist who visits your home can see exactly where the kitchen is, how your bedroom is arranged, what the stairs look like, and where the actual challenges in your daily life are. Assessment and treatment in that real environment is far more meaningful than in a clinic.

Reduced fatigue. travelling to appointments uses energy that could be better spent on the therapy itself. For people managing neurological fatigue, eliminating the journey can make the difference between a productive session and an exhausted one.

Accessibility. for people who use wheelchairs, have significant mobility difficulties, or are medically unstable, home visits remove access barriers that clinic attendance creates.

Physiotherapy in context. working on walking and movement in your own home, on your own floors and in your own spaces, builds skills that directly transfer to your daily life.

What a home visit session looks like

Home visit sessions vary by profession, but a first appointment typically involves an assessment of your home environment as well as your physical or functional needs. The therapist will want to see the spaces where you live and work. bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living areas, and any stairs.

Subsequent sessions focus on your treatment goals. For physiotherapy this might involve movement and exercise practice in your own home. For OT it might involve practising daily tasks in your own kitchen or bathroom. For NeuroMassage it involves treatment on a portable therapy couch brought to you.

Sessions are usually 45–60 minutes for assessment visits and can be shorter for follow-up treatment sessions.
